I know you already listened to one more of U2s songs here - yup it was Ordinary Love - but I cannot get enough of them and as this week we were celebrating the Irish & St. Patricks Day, I think the appropriate thing to do is to have an Irish song today ;)
***
Beautiful Day" is a song by the rock band U2. It is the first track from their 2000 album, All That You Cant Leave Behind, and it was released as the albums lead single. It was a commercial success, helping launch the album to multi-platinum status, and is one of U2s biggest hits to date. Like many tracks from All That You Cant Leave Behind, "Beautiful Day" harkens back to the groups past sound. The tone of The Edges guitar was a subject of debate amongst the band members, as they disagreed on whether he should use a sound similar to that from their early career in the 1980s. Lead vocalist Bono explained that the upbeat track is about losing everything but still finding joy in what one has. The song received positive reviews, and it became their fourth number-one single in the UK and their first number-one in the Netherlands. The song peaked at number 21 in the United States, the bands highest position since "Discothèque" in 1997. In 2001, the song won three Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The group has played "Beautiful Day" at every one of their concerts since the songs 2001 live debut on the Elevation Tour. (via)
Beautiful Day - U2
The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
Theres no room
No space to rent in this town
Youre out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And youre not moving anywhere
You thought youd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace
Its a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
Its a beautiful day
Dont let it get away
Youre on the road
But youve got no destination
Youre in the mud
In the maze of her imagination
Youre lovin this town
Even if that doesnt ring true
Youve been all over
And its been all over you
Its a beautiful day
Dont let it get away
Its a beautiful day
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know Im not a hopeless case
See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out
It was a beautiful day
Dont let it get away
Beautiful day
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know Im not a hopeless case
What you dont have you dont need it now
What you dont know you can feel it somehow
What you dont have you dont need it now
Dont need it now
Was a beautiful day
Shoots up through the stony ground
Theres no room
No space to rent in this town
Youre out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And youre not moving anywhere
You thought youd found a friend
To take you out of this place
